Baked Brie Bread Appetizer
This crescent-wrapped baked brie bread appetizer is made using only 3 ingredients and is done in 30 minutes! You can enjoy your warm baked Brie by itself or with your favorite crackers.
Baked Brie Bread Appetizer is made with 3 ingredients:
- Flaky crescent roll pastry, such as Pillsbury
- Brie cheese wheel
- Egg
The resulting brie bread pastry turns out to be soft and flaky and the cheese – warm and melty. It’s a quick and easy way to enjoy your brie baked.
Can I eat Brie’s rind (the white casing on the outside the cheese)?
Yes, the Brie’s rind is fully edible. As a matter of fact eating the rind is part of the experience of eating the cheese. The only rinds you can’t eat are the ones that are plastic or so hard you would break your teeth, like the red wax gouda or the hard rind on Parmesan.
Fortunately this is not the case with Brie’s rind, because it’s soft and delicious and is made out of harmless edible fungus (think mushrooms and blue cheese).
Inoculating the brie cheese with edible rind is part of the Brie cheesemaking process and rind and the cheese inside are meant to be eaten together.
Do I remove Brie’s rind before making the bread?
The Brie’s rind (the white casing on the outside) is not removed – Brie’s rind is what keeps the cheese from melting and leaking out of the pastry.

- It’s a great way to serve brie cheese – and usually the bread has a tendency to disappear within 20 minutes of guests seeing it.
Decorative leaves on top of the baked brie bread
To make leaves on top of the brie bread, you will need a small sharp knife and one strip of the rolled dough. They are easy to do and (see pictures with instructions further down) and besides, these brie bread decorations make the delicious baked brie bread appetizer look warm and inviting.
Tips on serving baked brie bread appetizer
- Make sure to cool off the bread a bit when it’s done baking in the oven, especially if you want the cheese to be intact.
- If you cut into the bread when it’s straight out of the even – the cheese will start pouring out of it like there’s no tomorrow.
- However, if you prefer your cheese to be more liquidy – serving it immediately is the way to go!
- This brie bread is even better the next day after refrigeration. The cheese is also firmer the next day.
- If making it ahead, the best way to reheat it is to pop it in the oven for about 10-15 seconds to slightly reheat it.
- This indulgent and elegant brie bread dish never fails to turn out incredible!
What does warm brie taste like?
Warmed up cheese inside the brie bread tastes differently that cold brie, and I do prefer warm version when I’m eating it as an appetizer.
Warm melted brie is soft and mild and is such a great contrast with salty and buttery puff pastry that it’s wrapped in.
To prepare Baked Brie Bread Appetizer
Start by unrolling the crescent roll dough and separating one strip (to be used for leaf cutouts later).
Pull up the sides of the bottom portion of dough and press the dough together to seal it tight and completely wrap the Brie. Use the remaining stripe for the leave cutouts:
Make cutouts with a small sharp knife.
Arrange dough cutouts on top of the bread and brush with beaten egg. This will create the shiny appearance of the bread.
And the brie bread is ready for the oven! Bake it for 18 to 20 minutes at 350 F.
